During the season of Thanksgiving, the Crudup-Ward Activity Center and Qualls Leadership Consulting Group held a 2014 Book Review Gala at the Center on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at 2:00 PM. Over 30 participants were in attendance who shared in this event.
The Book Review Gala featured Mrs. Bobbie Qualls whose an author, distinguished educator, poet, motivational trainer, and leadership consultant. Mrs. Qualls is the co-author of eight books entitled, Bruised but not Broken, How to Break the Glass Ceiling without a Hammer, Transformation: Reinventing the Woman Within, Sister to Sister: Guide for African American Girls, Boys to Men: A Guide for African American Boys, Madam CEO: How to Think and Act like a CEO, The Young Professional Woman, and The Coaching Gurus. All of these books were discussed at the Book Review Gala.
Mrs. Qualls opened up the book review event with acknowledgments to President Annie Lowery for allowing the Gala to be held at the Center along with the participants present who shared in this exciting event. Mrs. Qualls then preceded to discussed the books and have participants come to the front and reflect on the book in which they had read.
Mamie Crudup spoke about the book Bruised but Not Broken, and mentioned, "As we talk about bruised but not broken, when you are bruised but not broken you are going to go through a transformation, transformation by reinventing the woman within." Ten strategies were also mentioned that Mrs. Qualls wrote in her book.
Andrew Crudup discussed the book, How to Break the Glass Ceiling without a Hammer. Debra Lowery and Mary Fletcher reflected on the book, The Young Professional Woman.
Mary Fletcher added, "The young professional woman is professional, dependable, respectful, decision-maker, organized, she can be a leader, role model, and mentor. It is a must-read book. There are chapters such as "Finding a Mentor", "Believing in Yourself", "Positioning Yourself for Success", "Perseverance and Persistent", and lastly but not least, "Childhood Values Permeate...in the Workplace." The topics speak volumes."
Those who did not read a book co-authored by Mrs. Qualls, also had the opportunity to shared their ideas and enlighten on the topic or title of the chapters of their choice.
A book signing took place at the closing of the event for those who purchased books from Mrs. Qualls.
In conclusion, Annie Ward Lowery, president of Crudup-Ward Activity Center stated, "I have purchased all but one of the books and found them to be a rewarding asset to my life. I am looking forward to purchasing another book, upon availability."
